V60 Instructions: How to make perfect filter coffee at home
Why the V60 hand filter is so popular
The V60 pour-over coffee maker has long been a standard in German roasteries and cafes. With minimal equipment, you can prepare clear, aromatic filter coffee at home – perfect if you really want to taste the aromas of your specialty coffees.
In this V60 Brew Guide, I'll show you step by step how to consistently brew good coffee from the V60 .

Suitable V60 paper filters
-
Freshly roasted specialty coffee
-
Mill (preferably with a conical burr grinder)

V60 Recipe: Basic recipe for 1 cup (approx. 250 ml)
-
Coffee: 15 g
-
Water: 250 g (ml)
-
Grind size: medium-fine (slightly finer than classic filter coffee)
-
Brewing time: approx. 2:30–3:00 minutes
You can adjust the ratio to your taste later, e.g. 16g of coffee to 250ml of water for a little more intensity.
Step-by-step V60 instructions
-
boil water
Boil water and let it cool to approximately 92–96 °C. -
Rinse the filter
Insert the paper filter into the V60 and rinse with hot water.
→ This removes the papery taste and preheats the filter and cup. Discard the water afterwards. -
grind coffee
Grind 15g of coffee fresh – medium-fine.
Pour coffee into the V60 and gently shake the filter to level the surface. -
Blooming (Pouring 1)
Start the timer and pour in approximately 30-40 g of water until the coffee is completely saturated.
Allow the coffee to bloom for 30–45 seconds . This releases CO₂ and allows the coffee to extract evenly. -
Main infusions
After blooming, slowly pour on 2-3 more infusions until you have 250g of water.-
in circular movements
-
Do not pour directly onto the filter edge.
-
Intermediate infusions begin when the water level has dropped slightly.

Let it run
Goal: The total brewing time should be 2:30–3:00 minutes .
Once the water has completely run through, remove the V60 and enjoy.
